Top 4 Outstanding Tips for Growing Fresh Pomegranates in Container

The pomegranate tree, which is also known as Punica granatum has various benefits and amazing to have it in your collection. A delicious big red fruit – a fresh pomegranate which is loved by everyone due to its juicy and savory taste is quite distinctive. Its unique taste wins the heart of fruit lovers and is also quite healthy as they are filled with antioxidants. The flowers last for months and look very fabulous.

It is good news for container gardeners that they can have a pomegranate tree in their collection as they are quite small in height – almost fall under dwarf variety which grows as low as two feet. Due to this nature pomegranate trees can be grown in pots as well as containers.

There is not a big deal to cultivate the tree in a container. However, it does require adequate attention and care during its early years. If you are planning to grow from infancy you should be active in activities like the crop or trim the trees at regular interval. The result of fresh export quality pomegranates is inevitable.

Tips for growing pomegranate trees in containers:

1.      Pomegranate trees fall under dwarf varieties

These types of trees do not grow beyond two feet from the ground and therefore they are appropriate for container gardening. Only, you need to take care is these varieties are attractive in look but not all give good juicy fruit. Therefore, before buying make sure that their fruits have a thick outer rind. They will definitely give juicy fruits avoiding few disasters such as juice de-taste or stains.

2.      Sun and water are best friends of Pomegranate trees

They grow under proper sunshine every day. Therefore, make an arrangement where your container gets adequate sun. If you are not able to manage than they are ideal to survive in partial shade.

At the initial stage where the plantation is just done, it is necessary to pour lots of water for healthy development. Though, it totally depends on the pot size, soil density, air ventilation and heat. For example, if it’s too much heat in summer days than you need to water it frequently may be twice a day.


3.      Soil quality and maintenance

Trees are prune to grow with the help of water and soil. It is same with Pomegranate trees. They go well fit with most of the types of soil. The only thing gardener needs to take care of is the soil should be well-drained. The waterlogged soil will damage the pomegranate tree. Also, the soil should contain an excess amount of organic matter to give a healthy touch to fresh pomegranate. Keeping a good drainage at bottom of the pot will be quite beneficial to prevent water accumulation.

4.      Type of fertilizers

Any tree whether it is grown in farm or container needs fertilizers. They are food for trees and therefore regular fertilizing is the must. A pinch of organic fertilizer should be added in the soil before potting the pomegranate tree.  After potting it a diluted liquid of organic fertilizer sprinkled once in a week will be best during the growing process.

Once it’s completely mature pluck it out if you see fresh pomegranates. If they are not go for re-potting to avoid the protrude roots and cramping of flowers.
